—Get started with more “Physical Education” outside! I don’t know about you, but exercising outside during the winter is just miserable. I really can’t stand it, so oftentimes my workout routine stops for the winter. However, once spring arrives, I can get back outside and enjoy the weather! Unless going to a gym is an option for you or you are super hardcore, spring means time for fitness.
–Studying while soaking up the sun. What a huge pro for homeschooling, am I right?! If it is warm enough in your area during the spring, go ahead and take your school outside. When I was in high school, I often felt like there wasn’t much better than letting the sun warm me while I studied science and history. Granted, this may not be an option if all your schoolwork is on a desktop computer, but otherwise, grab up those books or your laptop and head out for the glorious sun. Get that fresh air, and enjoy yourself!
–Outside labs. We’ve all had those moments when you open your lesson for the week and realize that it includes smelly or messy experiments (biology dissections or chemistry solutions, anyone?). It’s not exactly the most fun to make the kitchen or dining room stink to high heaven, so why not take advantage of spring and take the labs outside? Set up a table and chair in the sun, soak in the warm, fresh air, and start working on that fun but undeniably messy or smelly experiment.
–Outdoor educational movie night. Do you use movies as part of your schooling? Plan an outdoor movie night on the lawn or driveway with a projector and popcorn! Better yet, grab a couple of beverages, maybe some blankets and a hoodie, and you’re all set to go.
–Make a music video. Graphic design and photography/videography are becoming more and more important in today’s digital age. Great graphics and videos are literally becoming EVERYTHING. Because of this, it might be a good (and potentially very fun) idea to take a graphic design/video creation course, or teach yourself with a “For Dummies” book and some time spent exploring programs. One of the best ways to do this might be to film a music video of your own. Pick one of your favorite songs, a few friends, and let your creativity run wild! This is a great way to spend more time outside in the spring to film shots and just generally have fun while learning! Now you may , but I would NOT want to attempt this in the snow. 😉
As a disclaimer, all of these ideas can be enjoyed in the summer as well. However, I figured most kids want at least some kind of a summer break, so it makes more sense for me to point them out while school is still “in session” for most. I hope you enjoy these activities and that they inspire you a bit to go outside and take advantage of the spring warmth.
