    Doing College at Home?

I recently stumbled over a link that was put up on LHSHS's facebook page that really changed my thinking. My daughter is graduating early from highschool (17) so we wanted a bit of an alternative to shipping her away to a college somewhere... anyway through the help of this website I was able to put together a Senior year for her (college prep) that will also get her some college credit through CLEP testing. Even next year, we can continue to work through some of those clep tests for a bit more college credit. By then she may be ready to go on to a local college or a college elsewhere... anyway... thanks for the information!!!

Cool CLEP is great, but be careful!

We used CLEP for a lot of our sons' college credit, but do be aware that some colleges won't take credit for CLEP tests. Almost 2,900 colleges do, but our huge local state institution, the University of Washington, doesn't! Kind of strange. Another important key is to make sure that your student will pass the CLEP. You only get to take the test two times, and they have to be six months apart; if the child doesn’t pass the CLEP the first time, they have to wait six more months before taking it again. If they don’t pass it the second time, they won’t be allowed to take that one again. Make sure that they can pass the test before they take it! Good luck, and enjoy all that college tuition money you are saving! Blessings, Lee

You are so right - we checked into a local branch of the University of Georgia - and they wouldn't accept CLEP credits... however, they did tell us that we could transfer those to one of the accepted community colleges and then try to transfer them to UGA - of course they were pretty specific...
