Do you have high schoolers with college on their mind? Many universities and colleges are welcoming homeschooled students with open arms. The learning experiences and opportunities homeschoolers are exposed to allow them to stand out amongst other applicants.

We know that researching colleges can be very overwhelming to your students, we did the heavy lifting for you. Below is a list of homeschool-friendly colleges and universities in Texas along with the admission requirements for homeschoolers.

Austin College

Austin College is a private, residential, co-educational college dedicated to educating undergraduate students in the liberal arts and sciences. Austin College has a strong relationship with the church and giving back to the community. Their mission is to give students an education that will prepare them for their future. In regards to the admission process, they recognize that for select students, standardized test scores do not accurately measure the student’s full potential. They use a holistic review, where they look at the student as a whole, and not just their quantitative achievements.

  • Requirement 3-Teacher Evaluation or Teacher Recommendation Letter
  • Requirement 4-High School Transcript
  • Requirement 5-Submit ACT or SAT scores
  • Requirement 6-Admission Interview with a member of the admission staff is recommended for applicants, though is optional.


Houston Baptist University

Houston Baptist University has been named #7 on the list of “The 25 Best Colleges for Homeschool Graduates” by Houston Baptist University’s environment has a large diverse population filled with endless opportunities. HBU has seven schools and colleges and more than 40 majors complimented by nine pre-professional programs. At HBU, students can learn to develop themselves as an individual. HBU strives to not only develop each student academically but spiritually, physically and relationally as well.

LeTourneau University

LeTourneau University is a private, Christian university in Longview, Texas. It has programs in engineering, aeronautical science, education, and business. The staff at LeTourneau University aims to build upon what parents have already begun throughout their students’ homeschooling journey. University of Dallas

The University of Dallas is a Catholic institution welcoming students of all faiths. The university attracts highly motivated students from throughout the nation. The University of St. Thomas Houston

The University of St. Thomas is Houston’s Catholic University, committed to the religious traditions of Catholic Higher Education. Their student population is very diverse and welcomes students from all schooling backgrounds. They welcome undergraduate and graduate students of all faiths and of no faith. Joy Capps is a homeschool bookworm residing in the mountains of western North Carolina. The only one who loves books more is her 16-year-old daughter. They both enjoy perusing old bookstores for treasures and sniffing books. Her son who is 18 has special needs, is the social butterfly of the family and has never met a stranger. Although she is originally from South Dakota she now calls North Carolina her home and she and her family love exploring the great outdoors. Her family has been homeschooling since 2005.
